On-Resort & Off-Resort Excursion Descriptions

This year, Kumon is excited to offer Elite Instructors and their guests a wide selection of excursions both on and off the Grande Lakes Resort property. We are pleased to inform you that you will receive an excursion subsidy based on your Elite status, which you can use on any excursion option. Platinum Instructors will receive a $600 excursion subsidy. Gold Instructors will receive a $400 excursion subsidy. Silver Instructors will receive a $200 excursion subsidy. These subsidies can be used on your excursion, as well as for any of your guest(s)’ excursions. In addition, Instructors may sign up themselves and guests for as many excursions as they like at an additional cost. Please refer to the list below for excursion eligibility and costs for each excursion package. All additional costs incurred on the Elite Retreat Registration website for Instructor or guest excursions will be charged to your June Instructor Monthly Statement.

Please review all of the information found on this website carefully prior to logging in to the registration page, as excursion descriptions are NOT provided on the registration page itself.

Your official excursion confirmation e-mails will not be sent until on or around March 13th due to minimum tour capacities that must be met. For any questions on off-site excursions, please contact Hello Florida directly using the information provided on your confirmation email. For questions on on-site excursions, please contact the Ritz-Carlton or JW Marriott directly using the information provided in your confirmation email.

Please Note:

  • All off-site excursions will take place on Sunday, April 15.
  • On-site excursions can take place throughout your stay. Blocks of time have been reserved on the afternoon of Saturday, April 14th and throughout the day on Sunday, April 15th.
  • Participation in the tours is encouraged, but is not mandatory.
  • Any extra costs incurred by Instructors or guests during the excursions are the responsibility of the Instructors or guests.
  • Most tours have minimum and maximum participation. If the tour you sign up for does not meet its minimum as of the close of registration, that tour will be canceled and you will be contacted and asked to choose an alternative tour.
  • Water will be available for Instructors and guests on every excursion.
  • Please be sure to carefully note all departure times and plan accordingly.

Off-Site Excursion #1: Zip-line Safari

General

Prepare yourself for a brand new tree-top nature tour like none other! This thrilling Zip-line experience, the first and only of its kind in Florida, allows you the perfect aerial vantage point to learn about Florida’s diverse ecosystems on a one-of-a-kind adventure. Along the two-and-a half-hour journey, you’ll soar through the tree tops, 55 feet off the ground, and make your way across sky-bridges while learning about Florida’s natural flora and fauna from your expert guide. Brace yourself for the sensation of flight as you Zip-line smoothly through Pine Flatwoods and over wetlands and prairie, home to native Florida wildlife including alligators, black bears, white tail deer and the endangered Florida Panther, all at speeds up to 25 miles per hour! Safari consists of 7 "zips" and 2 sky-bridges over 3 different ecosystems.

Coach Safari: Enjoy this journey into the real Florida beginning with a trip through a picturesque Florida ranch, featuring a living museum of Spanish Colonial Cattle and Florida’s unique Cracker Horses. Your eco-safari will take you on an adventure deep into the 4700 acre Forever Florida wildlife conservation area preserved just as nature intended. This pristine site boasts 9 distinct Florida ecosystems and an endless array of natural flora and fauna including alligators, black bears, white-tail deer and nearly two hundred species of birds. Your expert guide will get you up-close to everything as you make your way over land and water onboard our special open-air safari coaches, elevated 5 feet off the ground for a fantastic view of everything. Off-Site Excursion #2: Revolution – The Off-Road Experience

General

Let’s be clear – it's not a theme park! There are no lines, no characters in costumes, or roller coasters. Our events are all about you experiencing real-time action.

Revolution is a unique motor and water sport experience, offering an affordable, exciting and achievable adventure in an informal fun setting, but with maximum regard to safety. Whether driving All-Terrain Vehicles, Rallying, 4x4 or enjoying the water sports, you don’t have to be an expert - that’s our job - and we will guide you through your day at a pace to suit you.+

What we do have is: 220 acres of some of the most picturesque land in Florida; a lake for water sports; and purpose built tracks and trails to give you the thrill of a lifetime. Add in modern boats, bikes, cars and an assortment of 4x4’s, all kept in perfect working order plus a team of qualified instructors whose paramount pre-occupation is to ensure that you have a great day and keep you safe, and then you have the unique ingredients for our Off-Road Experience.

Please Note:

  • Participants will be required to complete a waiver and liability form before allowed on any of the vehicles.
  • This tour involves outdoor elements. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, closed toed shoes and dress for the weather and activity.
  • Drivers must be at least 16 years old
  • ATV’s: Drivers must be under 300 lbs
  • Dune Buggies: Drivers must be shorter than 6’2” and under 280 lbs
  • Drivers for the 4X4 Jeep Wranglers must hold a full valid current driving license.
  • To drive the Dune Buggies must be able to operate a stick shift.
  • Riders must wear the safety garments provided.
  • Wristbands, safety helmets, gloves and goggles will be provided and it is compulsory that they be worn at all times while driving, or being driven, in any vehicle on land or water.
  • Spectators are welcome on the property by prior arrangement, but must complete and sign the liability waiver forms and wear wristbands as issued on the day.

Off-Site Excursion #3: Discovery Cove

General

Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive adventure in which guests enjoy a one-of-a-kind opportunity to swim with dolphins, rays, and tropical fish and hand-feed exotic birds. At Discovery Cove, guests experience the most exciting animal encounters the world has to offer in a 30-acre tropical oasis. Discovery Cove is a paradise of rocky lagoons surrounded by lush landscaping, coral reefs, tropical rivers, a resort-style pool complete with waterfalls, and pristine white-sand beaches. Below are just a few examples of areas that the whole family can enjoy:

Explorer's Aviary - where an inspiring natural habitat sings with the rhythm of wings and the melodies of birdsong. Watch as hundreds of colorful birds soar above and around you. Feel your heart soar as a feathered friend glides in to meet you and nibble fruit from your hand.

The Grand Reef - Families can seek discoveries along the water’s edge or cross a bridge to see sharks swimming below. Play hide-and-seek with thousands of beautiful fish, from small colorful wrasses to large spotted eagle rays. Further out in the reef, stunning habitats create the feeling of swimming right alongside venomous lionfish and sharp-toothed reef sharks, each safely behind glass. You can even take paths and bridges to the reef’s islands and hidden grottos as they delve into the reef from above, around and below.

Serenity Bay - Slip into the refreshing 80-degree temperature of Discovery Cove's immense and immaculate Serenity Bay. Go for a swim in this pristine pool or simply soak up the sun as you enjoy the sparkling serenity of this fabulous freshwater playground.

The highlight of a visit to Discovery Cove is the opportunity to swim with a bottlenose dolphin during a 30-minute interactive adventure (for an additional fee). Accompanied by a trainer, groups of six to eight guests wade into shallow water and become acquainted with their dolphin through hugs, kisses and rubdowns. Then, taking the adventure one step further, guests interact with their dolphin in deeper water for an exciting dorsal fin tow ride back to shore.

Enjoy a “sneak peek” at SeaWorld, hosted by an expert guide who provides insider tips and animal information. Tour includes the following:

  • Reserved seating at one show: One Ocean, Clyde and Seamore, Blue Horizons
  • Front-line access to two rides: Kraken, Journey to Atlantis and Manta
  • Feeding stingrays or seals/sea lions

With over 110 of the hottest brands including new additions like Hugo Boss Factory Store, Tourneau, Tumi, White House Black Market, Esprit, Le Crueset, Crabtree & Evelyn, ClarksBostonian Outlet and Central Florida’s only Neiman Marcus Last Call, as well as favorites like Coach Factory, Gap Outlet, Ann Taylor Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike Factory Store and The Children’s Place, you’re sure to find a great bargain.

Off-Site Excursion #6: Backstage Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

General

Take a journey to find out what happens behind-the-scenes at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom! During this in-depth program, your guests get an insider’s look at conservation, animal nutrition and medicine, animal care, and behavioral studies. Highlights include visits to a backstage animal housing area, the Animal Nutrition Center, the Veterinary Hospital, and a special ride on Kilimanjaro Safari. The majority of this program takes place behind-the-scenes. Kilimanjaro Safari: Climb aboard the open-air safari vehicle for an incredible journey through more than 100 acres of African savannah, forest, rivers and rocky hills where hundreds of animals roam free. Unlike any experience this side of the equator, the Kilimanjaro Safari introduces you to the splendor and magnificence of creatures both large and small. An unexpected twist takes guests on an adventurous trip in pursuit of a band of poachers, while messages of conservation are echoed throughout the expedition.

Off-Site Excursion #7: Kennedy Space Center

General

A world apart from Orlando’s theme parks, but only 45 minutes away, Kennedy Space Center is NASA’s launch headquarters. Each year, millions of visitors make the trek to this hub of technology and discovery where many of mankind’s greatest accomplishments take place. Tour NASA’s launch and landing facilities, experience live shows and jaw-dropping encounters with massive rockets, as well as have the opportunity to meet a real member of NASA’s Astronaut Corps. It’s all what you can expect during an inspiring day at Kennedy Space Center.

There is much to see and do at the Visitor Complex, from live action theatrical shows to an educational Astronaut Encounter briefing. View 10-story high rockets from all eras of space exploration in the Rocket Garden, walk through a full-size Space Shuttle mock-up, enjoy IMAX Theater space films on gigantic five-story screens and see an actual Gemini program capsule on display. Shopping and food concessions are also available here for your enjoyment.

  • Due to heightened security, the following items are not permitted into Kennedy Space Center: coolers, luggage or large bags, wrapped items, firearms of any type (with or without a permit – including law enforcement officers), live ammunition, pepper/mace spray, laser pointers, knives and other sharp objects, large beach umbrellas (hand held umbrellas are permitted). Backpacks are not permitted on launch days. Detailed searches will be conducted on all bags and purses. All electronic devices must be in working condition. No outside food items are permitted on property. All guests have to go through the metal detectors so please reduce the number of items you normally carry.

Off-Site Excursion #8: Florida’s Big Three – Dolphins, Manatees and Gators

General

This tour begins en route, as a “certified” Eco-Guide narrates the significance of the Banana River, a backwater estuary and a wilderness waterway that was used by the indigenous Ais Indians. You will learn of its significance as you explore and cruise the smooth, inland waters around the lagoon’s uninhabited islands, aboard a shallow-draft, 50-passenger pontoon boat, in safety and comfort.

Then it’s off to look for alligators in The Central Florida Everglades! Here you will board 15-passenger airboats to explore an American Heritage River, the St. Johns, and its abundant wildlife. Your 30-minute airboat expedition has its own guide and Coast Guard licensed boat captain who will take you deep into the fresh water swamp habitat of the Florida Alligator and a wonderful assortment of creatures that call the “Glades” home. This is an easy adventure without the dirt or danger.

Package includes One Day/One Park After 2:00 PM Ticket to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios OR Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as well as transportation to Disney’s Ticket and Transportation Center (from there guests can access any of the four parks either by monorail, ferry or Disney bus) and return transportation to the JW Marriott.

Please note the following estimated park closing times. You may choose to stay at the park later than the shuttle returns to the JW Marriott, but will need to arrange for your own return transportation at an additional expense.

Experience the art and passion that all Italians put into pasta! Together with our experienced team of chefs, you can be a part of creating 3 great pasta dishes from start to finish. Learn to make homemade pasta from a few staple ingredients using a few simple techniques; then create pasta dishes celebrating the flavors of the season. Traveling back in time on Shingle Creek, guests will enjoy a two-hour guided Eco-Tour. Water guides will tell you the story of Shingle Creek 10 and all its inhabitants as you navigate your own canoe, while paddling through scenic Old Florida. Secluded from the everyday world, you will believe you are deep in the Florida Everglades.

Excursions take place on the 90-acre Shingle Pond, which sits on the most remote section of Grande Lakes. Guests board Hyde Drift boats alongside a guide team and fish the private waters of Shingle Pond, where fly fishing enthusiasts have the chance to reel in trophy largemouth bass. Lessons are also available in the art of fly fishing for the novice.

On-Site Excursion #5: The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club

General

The 18 Hole Greg Norman Signature Course is proud to have a unique Golf “Fore” Caddie Concierge Program in place to enhance every round. A “Caddie Concierge” will accompany each group and assist the players in many ways, such as mapping your next shot, cleaning your clubs, and repairing your bunkers. As the former host of the PGA Buick Scramble for three years (2003-2004-2005), this sanctioned Tournament Course weaves its way through a unique nature setting, nestled up to the headwaters of the Florida Everglades as its permanent backdrop. Over 25% of the grounds are dedicated as a wild life conservatory.

18 hole course – 4+ hour duration. Tee times are booked in 10-minute intervals.
