Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the distance or method of travel impact the Travel Subsidy?

The Instructor Travel Subsidy is dependent upon the location of your first-opened, still-operating Center. Mode of transportation is not a factor.

    • Instructors from US states located west of the Mississippi River are eligible for a $100 travel subsidy per Instructor.
    • Instructors from US states east of the Mississippi River, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico are eligible for a $200 travel subsidy per Instructor.
Travel subsidies will be credited to the Instructor’s September monthly statement; there is no need to submit receipts. All travel-related expenses are the responsibility of the participant. No Travel Subsidy will be provided in the case of cancellation or no-show.

  • I did not attend the conference in Vancouver and I would like to share a hotel room at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas with another registered Instructor who did not attend the conference in Vancouver. Are we both eligible for the $75 per night hotel subsidy?

No. In the case of room sharing, only the Instructor who placed the hotel room reservation within the Kumon room block at the Cosmopolitan will have the subsidy amount credited to their account in September. Kumon does not combine or split hotel subsidies for Instructors. Any financial arrangements regarding room sharing must be made between the Instructors themselves.

  • Which nights are eligible for the Hotel Subsidy?

All hotel bookings are based on availability at the host hotel. If you book your hotel room through the 877 number listed on the “Logistics” page of this website, then you will be eligible for $75 per night for the following dates: July 12, July 13, and July 14, a total of three nights. For those arriving one day early to attend a Center Visit, we will also include July 11, for a total of four nights. For those arriving two days early to attend a Center Visit, we will include both July 10 and July 11, for a total of five nights. Please note that Center Visit registration is limited and not guaranteed and that you must be registered for and attend a Center Visit to receive the additional one or two nights’ subsidy.

For those Instructors who attended the 2011 Instructors Conference in Vancouver, you are eligible for one complimentary City Room for July 12, July 13, and July 14, a total of three nights. If you register for a Center Visit, you will be eligible for the $75 per night subsidy on July 10 and/or 11, depending on the date of the Center Visit you register for.

  • What is the maximum number of people that can stay in one hotel room?

The maximum number of people allowed in one hotel room at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is 4. Prices are based on double occupancy. A charge of $30 USD (per night, plus taxes) will be charged for any third and fourth adult (age 18 or above) staying in one room.

  • Is it possible to book extra nights before and after the conference period?

A limited number of rooms are available at the Kumon rate at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for those Instructors wishing to extend their stay. You may request this rate for stays beginning on Friday, July 6th and ending on Friday, July 20th. Please note that all rooms are booked on a first-come, first-served basis and will only be available until the quantity is exhausted. Please see the “Logistics” page of this website for information on booking rooms.

  • I am an Elite Instructor. Am I eligible for any additional subsidy due to my status?

All Instructors are eligible for the same subsidy (per the guidelines) regardless of their Elite Status.

  • Will I need to submit receipts for my travel or accommodations in order to be credited my subsidy amount?

No. All applicable subsidies are a flat amount and will be applied per the specified guidelines. You should see your applicable credits on your September statement.

  • How many total guests am I permitted to have?

There is no limit to the number of guest that you may bring, but please note that you will be charged a Guest Registration Fee for each of them and that the occupancy limit per hotel room is 4 people.

  • Can my Social Guest also come to breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday?

No. A Social Guest is granted access to the Thursday night Welcome Reception and the Saturday night Gala Dinner only. If you wish for this person to have access to breakfast and lunch they would need to be signed up as a Full Guest.

  • May I attend more than one Center Visit?

No. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, Instructors may only register for one Center Visit.

  • May I transfer my registration for a Center Visit to another person?

No. All Center Visits are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If I need to cancel am I responsible for any fees?

    Cancellation Policies:

    • Registration Fee: The Registration Fee is non-refundable once you submit your registration. Registered Instructors who cancel their registration or decide not to attend the Conference will be responsible for the full amount of their own Registration Fee and that of any Guests. Fees associated with Center Visits are also non-refundable.
    • Hotel: To cancel your hotel reservation and learn of any applicable cancellation fees, Instructors should inquire with the hotel directly.
    • Subsidies: Cancellations and/or no-shows will render Instructors ineligible for the Travel and Hotel Subsidies. Instructors are required to attend all core Conference learning sessions (General Assemblies and Workshops) and follow all related policies in order to be eligible for the Hotel and Travel Subsidies.
    • Travel Costs: All travel-related expenses are the responsibility of the participant. No Travel Subsidy will be provided in the case of cancellation or no-show.

  • I attended the 2011 conference in Vancouver and had registered my guests as social-only. Will my complimentary guests this year be considered social-only or will they be able to attend the full conference?

Further information regarding the different types of guests is available on the Guests page of this website.
