Q) How was my Elite status calculated?
A) In consideration of the fact that the IPA program first took effect in January of 2011, this year’s Elite Retreat eligibility* was determined using the higher Elite status achieved by calculating each Instructor’s average IPA/QP points first from only the most recent three quarters (March 2011, June 2011, and September 2011) and then from the most recent four quarters (December 2010, March 2011, June 2011, and September 2011). For example, if an Instructor achieved Gold Elite status by calculating in one way, but achieved Platinum status by calculating in the other way, the Instructor was awarded Platinum status. *Please note that, as in the past, only Instructors who are in good standing with KNA and who have achieved full license in both Math and Reading are eligible to attend the Elite Retreat.
Q) How do I make travel arrangements?
A) Instructors can book all necessary flights, whether for themselves, a Kumon-paid guest, or an Instructor-paid guest, directly through a link to our travel agency, Kintetsu International, on the Elite Retreat Registration page. As long as the Instructor/guest is arriving on April 13 and departing on April 16, the flights booked will then automatically generate ground transportation reservations from/to the airport in Orlando. In order for Kumon to be able to pay 100% of an Instructor’s and their Kumon-paid guest(s)’ airfare, rather than providing reimbursement after the fact, ALL Kumon-paid flights MUST be booked through Kintetsu International.
Q) Should I purchase trip/travel insurance with my airline ticket?
A) You are welcome to purchase trip/travel insurance, but this is your choice, and is not required, and will not be paid or reimbursed by Kumon.
Q) May I extend my trip longer than the scheduled dates of the Elite Retreat?
A) Yes.
- Reservations for the nights of the event – Friday, April 13, Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15 – must be made through the Elite Retreat Registration website. Reservations for additional nights at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes may (but need not) be made through the website or you may call toll-free at 1-800-576-5750. All additional fees incurred through the Elite Retreat Registration website will be charged to your June Instructor Monthly Statement.
- You are more than welcome to extend your stay, either at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes or at another hotel. However, you will be responsible for making all the reservations, for the cost of any additional hotel nights/meals, and for your ground transportation to/from the airport.
- Kumon has blocked a limited number of rooms for three (3) days prior to and three (3) days after the event. The Kumon discounted rate for rooms for the additional nights is $178.88 for up to two adults and $22.50 for a third adult (13 and over) in the same room. There is no additional charge for children (age 12 and under).
Q) Will Kumon still purchase the airline ticket if an Instructor wants to travel to another city or country either prior to or following the Elite Retreat?
A) In general, no. All Kumon-paid flights must be booked between your home airport and Orlando International Airport (MCO). However, please note that Instructors from Hawaii, Seattle, Vancouver, and Calgary Branches have the option to stay in the JW Marriott on April 12 (one night early) at no charge OR to receive up to $140 USD reimbursement to stay in a hotel during an overnight layover in another city. These same Instructors are also eligible to receive the $140 USD layover reimbursement on the return trip. Layovers should not be necessary for Instructors from other branches.
Please keep in mind that all Kumon-paid flights MUST be booked through our travel agency, Kintetsu International.
Q) What are the travel subsidy guidelines for Instructors in Partnerships?
A) For all Partnership Instructors, the Math partner will be considered the “Instructor” and the Reading partner will be considered the 1st guest of the Instructor.
- Platinum Elite Partners: Math Instructor = Instructor; Reading Instructor = Free Guest #1
- Gold Elite Partners: Math Instructor = Instructor; Reading Instructor = Free Guest
- Silver Elite Partners: Math Instructor = Instructor; Reading Instructor = Instructor-paid Guest
Q) If I am a Platinum- or Gold-Level Instructor, can I invite a guest to join me who will be flying from another city in North America (Canada, Mexico, or the USA)?
A) Yes. A Platinum- or Gold-level Instructor’s Kumon-paid guests may fly from any US/Canadian/Mexican airport to Orlando. Please keep in mind that all Kumon-paid flights MUST be booked through our travel agency, Kintetsu International.
Q) How and when will I be billed for any registration fees or non-Kumon-paid charges that I may incur?
A) Any fees incurred by an Instructor that is not covered by Kumon or has not been secured with a personal credit card will appear on the Instructor’s June Statement.
Q) Prices are quoted in US Dollars, so does that mean any KNA charges on my statement will appear in US Dollars?
A) No. Any charges from KNA associated with this event will appear on your statement in your own local currency (US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, or Mexican Pesos) based on the exchange rates published in the Wall Street Journal as of April 1, 2012.
